BYD ATTO 8 and nine-minute charging: What the new technology offers
BYD says its seven-seat ATTO 8, unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, can charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes on compatible FLASH Charging infrastructure. The SUV is scheduled to reach European markets in the first quarter of 2027 with a second-generation Blade Battery.
Charging figures for a 115 kWh battery

The main charging development highlighted by the ATTO 8 is a shorter stop for a large battery. According to BYD’s European announcement, its 115 kWh battery can move from 10% to 70% in five minutes on a suitable fast-charging system. The stated total time to reach 97% is nine minutes.
Those figures depend on the second-generation Blade Battery working with FLASH Charging. They should therefore not be read as a result that any electric vehicle can achieve at any charging point. The power available from the station, the vehicle’s supported charging system, the initial state of charge and battery temperature all matter.
Infrastructure matters in everyday use
The starting and ending percentages are important when comparing charging sessions. A figure for the 10–97% window is different from the time needed to fill a completely empty battery to 100%. Using the manufacturer’s highest stated performance during a journey requires access to a charger that supports the relevant technology.
Cold-weather performance cannot be assessed from charger power alone, either. Preparing the battery to operate at the appropriate temperature, energy management and the power curve applied throughout the session can affect the overall stop. Real-world results may consequently differ from figures announced by a manufacturer under specific conditions.
A seven-seat SUV scheduled for 2027

BYD positions the ATTO 8 at the top of its European SUV family. It plans different power outputs and both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Its announced European market introduction is the first quarter of 2027; that is not a separately confirmed sales or delivery date for Türkiye.
The charging network is as important to wider adoption as developments inside the vehicle. Faster charging offers the potential to reduce the time allocated to charging on long journeys. A model’s technical capability and the availability of that experience across all routes are nevertheless different stages. The ATTO 8 announcement illustrates why progress in vehicles and infrastructure needs to happen together.
