SiberTEPE develops blockchain-based security layer for DNS and DHCP

SiberTEPE, developed by Yeditepe University graduates, aims to support address resolution and IP-address allocation with a blockchain-based security layer. According to the university, the project placed second in Türkiye in the TEKNOFEST 2026 Blockchain Competition.

From an internship problem to a project

Computer engineering graduates Ediz Ural, Özgür Pirli and Atahan Düryaz developed the project over approximately a year with team adviser Ahmet Atakan Okutan, a postgraduate student in electrical and electronics engineering. Work took place at Yeditepe University’s Teknopark İstanbul Venture Studio.

The team focused on security challenges in the DNS and DHCP processes used by organisational networks. DNS associates domain names with network addresses, while DHCP helps devices obtain IP addresses and other network settings automatically.

Records distributed across multiple nodes

SiberTEPE’s approach distributes address records across different nodes rather than relying on a single point. The team aims to use distributed records and integrity checks to identify unauthorised changes and reduce the impact of attacks against a central point.

The developers say problems encountered during internships inspired the work. The described capabilities reflect the team’s development objectives and assessment. They do not constitute an independently validated guarantee of protection against every type of cyberattack.
