Developed in collaboration with ARRI, HONOR’s new flagship Magic9 Pro Max features a dual 200 MP camera system, an end-to-end professional cinema workflow, 4K video recording and cinema-grade audio capabilities. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, the device brings professional content creation to the palm of your hand with an 8,800 mAh battery, an LTPO OLED display with peak brightness of 10,000 nits and AI-powered imaging technologies.
HONOR, a global leader in AI-powered device ecosystems, has unveiled the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max in China. The new flagship represents the latest milestone in HONOR’s Cinematic Imaging Collaboration with ARRI. The device introduces an end-to-end professional cinema workflow developed in collaboration with ARRI, incorporating selected elements of ARRI Image Science. Marking a significant milestone in the Magic Series’ decade-long evolution, the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max makes professional cinematic content creation more accessible to everyday users.
A Cinema System in Your Hand
Positioned as a handheld cinema system, the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max brings an end-to-end professional cinema workflow to a mobile format, covering the cinematic user experience, recording, image quality, colour, audio, LiveVideo and content creation equipment.
The dual 200 MP camera system and HONOR’s proprietary HONOR Imaging Chip H1 work alongside sensor calibration developed with ARRI Image Science, the ARRI LogC3 Curve, 10-bit colour depth, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and pre-configured ARRI Looks. Cinematic LiveVideo, the Cinematic Directional Microphone, the HONOR Teleconverter G200, the HONOR Teleconverter G500 and the HONOR SmallRig Mobile Video Kit further expand creative possibilities.
These features are complemented by an entirely new design inspired by cinema camera engineering, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform and MagicOS 11.
HONOR CEO James Li described the new device as follows:
“The HONOR Magic Series was created to nurture and empower the creativity within each of us through technology. With the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, HONOR AI supports content creators from ideation and scriptwriting to editing, helping turn inspiration into action. Through our Cinematic Imaging Collaboration with ARRI, we are combining the HONOR AIMAGE engine with ARRI’s century of cinematic expertise, helping everyone become the director of their own lives.”
Developed with Imaging Leader ARRI
At the heart of the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max is an end-to-end imaging experience developed through HONOR’s Cinematic Imaging Collaboration with ARRI. The jointly developed workflow brings selected elements of ARRI Image Science into image capture, colour management and real-time preview.
The broader mobile workflow combines these capabilities with HONOR’s imaging hardware and processing technologies, professional audio, Cinematic LiveVideo and modular content creation tools. This creates a more consistent process, from the moment light reaches the sensor to the final colour-graded image.
Sensor calibration developed with ARRI Image Science works alongside the ARRI LogC3 Curve, 10-bit colour depth and ARRI Wide Gamut 3 to preserve more highlight, shadow and colour information for post-production. In ARRI CINEMA Mode, the system supports recording at up to 4K 60 fps. ARRI Looks, available for real-time preview, also help creators make more informed colour decisions while shooting.
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max includes a total of 14 pre-configured ARRI Looks, comprising two built-in ARRI conversion Looks and 12 stylised Looks. The ARRI Look Library offers 87 predefined creative colour treatments, giving creators more options for shaping the mood and visual character of their footage.
CIPA 8.0-Level Image Stabilisation
At the core of the workflow is a dual 200 MP imaging system developed with ARRI Image Science.
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max combines a 200 MP Ultra Night Main Camera featuring a 1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.57 aperture, OIS and three-degree gimbal-level stabilisation with a 200 MP Ultra Night Telephoto Camera featuring a 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/2.6 aperture and OIS. Both cameras deliver image stabilisation performance rated at CIPA 8.0. A 50 MP Ultra-Wide Camera with an f/2.0 aperture completes the rear camera system.
Developed by HONOR, the HONOR Imaging Chip H1 is built on a 6 nm process and delivers energy efficiency of 18.8 TOPS per watt. Integrated into the imaging pipeline developed with ARRI Image Science, the chip brings AI-powered noise reduction into the RAW domain in real time, helping preserve more of the original image information.
According to HONOR’s test data, the integrated imaging pipeline improves the signal-to-noise ratio by 8 dB and supports up to 14 stops of cinematic dynamic range. This helps preserve textures, highlight details and natural tonal transitions under challenging lighting conditions.
Capturing Cinematic LiveVideo
ARRI CINEMA Mode supports recording at up to 4K 60 fps, giving content creators greater flexibility for cinematic shooting. Cinematic LiveVideo captures a three-second moving moment after users press and hold the record button. With support for resolutions of up to 4K, the feature makes it easier to share a scene while preserving its atmosphere and movement.
Completing the workflow, the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max features a Cinematic Directional Microphone system with four microphones for camera recording. Stereo Dual 1216 Speakers handle audio monitoring and playback.
ARRI CINEMA Mode brings essential controls together in a streamlined interface, including resolution, frame rate, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, focus, lens selection, aspect ratio, stabilisation, exposure compensation, audio presets and imaging mode.
Optional cinema-grade content creation tools extend the workflow beyond the phone itself. These include the HONOR SmallRig Mobile Video Kit, HONOR Teleconverter G200 and HONOR Teleconverter G500. Used together, these accessories provide a more versatile mobile setup for handheld shooting, accessory expansion and long-distance filming.
For portrait photography, the 55 MP Square-Format Front Camera works alongside a 3D Depth-Sensing Camera. It supports 1:1 shooting for group photos, selfies and vlogs, as well as flexible cropping in both portrait and landscape formats.
A New Design Language Inspired by Cinema Heritage
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max introduces the most significant change to the Magic Series’ design language since the HONOR Magic3.
Inspired by ARRI’s iconic three-lens turret system, which dates back to 1937 and was featured on ARRIFLEX cameras, the rear camera architecture reinterprets the classic 1+2 layout. The main, telephoto and ultra-wide cameras are positioned in a unified arrangement that reflects the device’s professional imaging ambitions.
The raised camera module is positioned to help reduce the likelihood of users accidentally covering the lenses with their fingers while shooting. An optimised internal component layout creates room for advanced imaging hardware and a large battery without compromising the device’s slim, lightweight and comfortable form factor.
The Full-Metal Unibody and Dual Micro-Slit Antenna Design complete the device’s clean, integrated appearance.
High Performance for Content Creation and Gaming
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform, delivering flagship-level performance for professional video production, on-device AI processing and gaming.
Designed for extended content creation sessions, the device features a next-generation 8,800 mAh HONOR Silicon-Carbon Battery. It supports 100 W wired HONOR SuperCharge and 80 W wireless HONOR SuperCharge.
The third-generation HONOR C3 RF Enhancement Chip uses a seven-chip RF architecture and intelligent network selection to help maintain a stable connection in complex and congested network environments.
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max features a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with an anti-reflective coating and HONOR NanoCrystal Shield, designed to resist scratches. With a reflectance rate as low as 1.5% and peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits, the display offers clearer viewing outdoors and more controlled monitoring while shooting.
The device also supports IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust resistance ratings, providing additional reassurance for filming outside the studio.
MagicOS 11: A More Proactive Experience for Creators
Based on Android 17, MagicOS 11 advances HONOR’s agentic AI vision with a more proactive YOYO experience.
YOYO Memory helps users save, organise and retrieve useful content. The one-tap Video Highlights feature captures a standout moment from a video and turns it into a shareable Live clip.
MagicOS 11 also expands cross-brand connectivity, including file transfers with supported iOS, macOS, Android and Windows devices.
YOYO Tasks can understand users’ intentions and coordinate across supported services to complete specific multi-step requests.
