Türkiye’s energy storage investments are entering a new phase, with the total capacity of electricity generation projects that had received preliminary licenses for energy storage exceeding 28,000 MW as of July 2026. As investment volumes grow, the technical and commercial feasibility of projects, proper sizing, grid integration, facility acceptance procedures, financing, and revenue models are emerging as key industry priorities. Against this backdrop, the Energy Storage Systems Summit – ESS Summit 2026, which will be held for the fourth time this year, will bring together public- and private-sector representatives to examine how projects can progress from planning to investment and operation.
THE INDUSTRY’S NEW INVESTMENT AGENDA TO BE DISCUSSED IN ANKARA
The 4th Energy Storage Systems Summit – ESS Summit 2026, organized by the Digitalization in Energy Association (EDİDER) and the Energy Storage Systems Association (EDSİS), will take place on October 8, 2026, at JW Marriott Ankara. The invitation-only summit will bring together senior representatives from public institutions, energy companies, investors, financial institutions, and technology providers.
THE ROLE OF GRID FLEXIBILITY AND SECURITY OF SUPPLY IN ENERGY STORAGE IS GROWING
Commenting on the summit, C. Can Tutaşı, Chairman of the Board of the Energy Storage Systems Association (EDSİS), said:
“Energy storage systems make it possible to store surplus electricity generation and feed it back into the system when needed, manage fluctuations in the grid, and use renewable energy sources more effectively. As investments in energy storage develop in Türkiye, the industry’s agenda is also entering a new phase.
“Investment decisions are increasingly determined not only by the installation of projects, but also by their proper sizing, grid integration, management of acceptance procedures, development of financing models, and ability to generate revenue during operation.
“We are now moving beyond the stage of debating why energy storage is necessary. As the share of renewable energy sources in the system increases, the role of storage in ensuring grid flexibility and security of supply will become even more significant.
“The key challenge ahead is to implement planned investments using the right technical and commercial models. We need to assess the entire process together, from determining the capacity of a storage facility and integrating it into the grid to securing financing and identifying how it can generate revenue across different markets.
“At ESS Summit 2026, we will address the industry’s next phase from precisely this perspective. Our discussions will cover the technical and commercial feasibility and sizing of energy storage facilities, grid integration and facility acceptance procedures, commercial operations and revenue optimization, international investment opportunities, and financing models. These topics will be evaluated through industry representatives’ experiences and concrete implementation examples.”
About the Energy Storage Systems Association (EDSİS)
The Energy Storage Systems Association (EDSİS) is an industry organization dedicated to supporting the development of energy storage technologies in Türkiye, strengthening cooperation among industry stakeholders, and contributing to the country’s energy transition.
The association aims to promote knowledge sharing among public institutions, the private sector, and academia; raise awareness of energy storage solutions; and contribute to the wider adoption of storage technologies within Türkiye’s energy system.
