Continental to Launch More Than 650 New High-Performance Tire Sizes by the End of 2027

Continental, one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, has announced that it will add more than 650 new Ultra-High Performance (UHP) tire sizes to its portfolio by the end of 2027. Having increased the share of UHP tires in its passenger car tire sales from 49% to 62% between 2020 and 2025, the company is expanding its product range to meet growing demand for high-performance tires.

The recent rise in the popularity of SUVs and electric vehicles is supporting growth in the Ultra-High Performance (UHP) segment, which covers tires measuring 18 inches and above. In response to increasing demand, Continental has announced that it will add more than 650 new tire sizes to its portfolio by the end of 2027, including products from its second brands, Semperit and Uniroyal. This expansion will cover both the original equipment (OE) and replacement tire markets.

Electric Vehicles and the SUV Trend Drive Growth in the UHP Tire Segment

The additional weight of batteries and high torque associated with electric vehicles are increasing the need for Ultra-High Performance (UHP) tires. Between 2020 and 2025, the share of UHP tires in global passenger car tire sales across all brands rose from 41% to 55%, while Continental, one of the industry’s leading companies, increased this share to 62% within its own sales.

By combining high grip and short braking distances with low rolling resistance, driving comfort, and high mileage performance, Continental is developing solutions that meet the growing performance and efficiency expectations of modern vehicles.

Edwin Goudswaard, Head of Research and Development at Continental Tires, noted that advances in automotive technology are making vehicles larger, heavier, and more powerful.

“Tires are no longer simply the point of contact between a vehicle and the road; they are a critical prerequisite for safety, efficiency, and driving dynamics. With the new sizes we are adding to our portfolio, we are directly addressing the evolving needs of modern vehicles,” he said.

A Test Champion: SportContact 7

One of Continental’s leading products in the UHP segment, the SportContact 7, has achieved first place in 28 out of 30 independent international tire tests conducted since its launch. Available in various sizes ranging from 18 to 24 inches, this summer tire is selected as original equipment for specific models from automakers including Audi, BMW, BYD, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen.

In independent tests, the SportContact 7 stands out particularly for its short braking distances on both dry and wet surfaces, as well as its balanced and confidence-inspiring grip.
